Our Mission

Helambu Health exists to bring essential dental care to the Helambu region. Through preventive care, treatment, education, and emergency services, we believe access to essential healthcare should not depend on geography.

Our Vision

We envision a sustainably built Helambu Dental Hospital in Ichowk village that serves as a permanent, trusted center for dental and medical care, rooted in community partnership and environmental responsibility. Through locally sourced rammed earth construction and a thoughtfully designed campus for patients, staff, and providers, this hospital will stand as a lasting model for accessible, resilient healthcare in the region.

What sets us apart isn’t just our process - it’s the intention behind it.

This effort is led by Peter Schmieding, DMD, a practicing dentist in both the United States and Nepal. After opening a volunteer dental clinic in Helambu in 2022, Peter witnessed firsthand the scale of unmet need and committed to building a permanent solution.

The project is supported by an extraordinary group of partners, including:

  • Dhulikhel Hospital and Kathmandu University Dental College

  • Arthrex Corporation

  • Montana State University

  • Building Bureau

  • The local municipal government of Helambu

  • Tsering’s Fund

Ground was officially broken on November 18 during a Buddhist blessing ceremony attended by U.S. Ambassador Dean Thompson, Dhulikhel Hospital founder Ram Shrestha, and respected Buddhist teacher Mingyur Rinpoche.
